November 3, 2014 – For about ten years or so I’ve had a desire to write a book. I didn’t really give it serious thought and didn’t know what I was going to write about. Plus, I wasn’t really sure how to get started. These of course are all poor excuses. But the past is the past and now is the start of the future.
Last week I committed myself to writing my first book. I’ve decided that it will be about my life’s experiences in the United States Marine Corps and the events that led to my joining.
It’s going to be lot’s of hard work and time before I accomplish this goal, but I can tell already that it will be gratifying and well worth the effort. Being only in chapter one right now, I’m amazed at how writing can lead to more writing. I thought that the first chapter would be small and that I wouldn’t be able to fill pages with many details. But that has already proven to be a non-issue. As I write, more and more memories and details come out and I put them down making the chapter worthy of length and details.
I’ve already started contacting friends with whom I served for their help and perspectives of our times together. I’m very excited to be doing this and I look forward to hearing from my friends memories as well.
